1/6/2024 0 Comments Odyssey houseOdyssey College is the education arm of Odyssey House NSW and provides all clients in the residential program a rich and worthwhile educational experience. While residents can leave at any point, it is recommended they stay for at least nine months as research has proven that their chances of recovery are higher, the longer they stay in the program. All residential participants have their own individual treatment plan detailing their goals and aspirations, while also participating in the main group program and general activities such as cooking, cleaning and garden maintenance. It adds more in-depth groups, psychoeducation, individual counselling and life skills education as well as study, including VET courses, at Odyssey College. The Core and Senior programs build on the model and recovery progress of the Foundations of Recovery program. Our programs are client-centred, therefore the length of time spent in long-term residential may differ from client to client. It includes Core recovery and Senior stage, followed by a four-month re-entry and transition program, if required. Long Term Residential Rehabilitation Program continues on from Foundations of Recovery where residents are at Odyssey House for further six months. Our three-month residential program incorporates more mental health and relapse prevention. It provides an opportunity for people in addiction to live together and take responsibility for themselves and each other as a community. Rehabilitation Programsįoundations of Recovery Program is a 12-week program designed to meet the needs of less complex clients who require residential treatment and can have their treatment needs best met in an intensive, shorter program. Job functions include maintaining the property, painting, gardening, cooking, driving and administration. As they progress, they take over the day-to-day administration and running of Odyssey House. Residents achieve therapeutic goals by demonstrating their ability to move through the stages of the program. The rehabilitation process is undertaken in a structured environment, with treatment support provided by professional counsellors and medical staff. I have a lot of really good people in my life today and I am grateful for the staff here, who went out of their way to support me when I could not support myself.As part of the therapeutic community, residents live and work together as a small community of approximately 100 people at the main facility in Eagle Vale in Sydney’s South West. I have been clean ever since and it is not a bed of roses, it’s just getting on with life and genuinely enjoying each day without the cloud, or fog or buffer or constant pain of withdrawal. It wasn’t until I did their extended program and began to address some of these underlying issues did I even get some peace. I really didn’t want to use, but I could not stop. The importance of community, peer support and finding much healthier ways to enjoy life without the constant burden of having to use. Odyssey me about the basic principles of recovery. I don’t know why, but I would eventually discover I had a lot more problems than alcohol and drugs and I was using these substances to medicate feelings I did not even understand. I would get three months, sometimes six and even a year or two and would always for some reason end up back on the gear. I was a completely broken person and I had been trying to get clean most of my life.
